A new Boy Scout Troop and Cub Scout Pack was formed during January 2018. Troop and Pack 7240 of the Boy Scouts of America was formed under the approval of Immaculate Conception Parish withthe coordination of Immaculate Conception Catholic School.
Dennis Matthews of the Knights of Columbus and a former scout leader in California was the inspiration and initial leader. Last fall, he assembled a group of adults that formed an institutional committee and volunteers for leadership positions.
As of the first of the year, boys, ages 11-18 registered for the Boy Scout Troop and boys and girls
ages 7- 10 registered for the Cub Scout Pack. Under a new national Boy Scout policy, girls will be allowed to register with the troop as of January 1, 2019.
After the first six months of existence, all group members have learned new skills and improved their ranks. Two events of overnight camping in tents have improved camping skills. Two visitations involved the Verde Valley Medical Center and the Verde Valley Fire Station. The hospital visit also included a close-up inspection of an ambulance-helicopter.
The troop and pack always welcome new applicants. Both groups meet at Immaculate Conception Catholic School every Tuesday evening from 6:30 to 7:30 PM
